In a future where global conflicts are no longer decided by armies, nations settle disputes through the ultimate test of strategy: Checkmate Protocol.

Players take the role of strategic commanders representing competing powers in a high-stakes diplomatic chess tournament. Before each confrontation begins, players do not simply choose their moves — they design the battlefield itself.

Through a strategic drafting phase, players purchase and deploy chess pieces using limited resources, creating unique opening positions unlike anything possible in traditional chess. Pieces can begin in unexpected formations, allowing players to create aggressive attacks, defensive structures, or entirely new strategic concepts.

With 18.7 quintillion possible opening configurations, every match begins as a new strategic challenge. The outcome is not decided by memorised openings, but by adaptation, creativity, and the ability to solve unfamiliar positions.

Once deployment is complete, the diplomatic negotiations end and the chess match begins. Players must use their drafted forces to battle through a complete game of chess, ending in checkmate, resignation, or stalemate.

The Philosophy

Traditional chess asks:

"Who can outcalculate their opponent from an equal position?"

Checkmate Protocol asks:

"Who can create the strongest position, adapt to uncertainty, and outthink their opponent?"

The game transforms chess from a fixed opening battle into a living strategic competition where preparation, creativity, and decision-making determine victory.

International Resolution Events

Before certain rounds, the United Nations Strategic Council may introduce new conditions that affect the battlefield.

Examples:

Resolution 67: Bishop Restrictions

"A new international agreement has restricted diagonal operations. Bishops cannot be drafted this round."

Other possible resolutions:

• restrictions on specific piece types,
• altered draft budgets,
• expanded deployment zones,
• emergency time controls,
• special strategic conditions.

Every round becomes a new diplomatic situation requiring adaptation.
